VMware Fusion Pro tip

It’s so nice to have control click back to select/unselect individual items.

Sometimes I like to get Nostalgic and watch old commercials from back in the day. “Wow what a difference!”

Mountain Lion + Alfred Tips and Tricks

Apple’s newest operating system OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion, is pretty awesome. In my opinion it is what 10.7 Lion should have been. It has some many great new features including AirPlay.

AirPlay is ability to play music or audio through your stereo via an Apple Airport Express or an Apple TV.

Apple’s had this feature feature built into iTunes for a while, but their are programs like Rdio that you haven’t been able to do this with without a third party application.

One of the biggest frustration is switching Airplay on which you’d think it would be easy.

You have to open System Preferences go to Sound and Change it from Internal Speakers to your AirPlay device.

I use Alfred which is wonderful application for quickly doing tasks. It’s like Spotlight on the mac but so much better. For those forefathers of OS X you might remember Quicksilver

I figured there had to be a quicker way using Alfred to switch between sound outputs and did a search and found a terminal command call AudioDevice. Download AudioDevice and put the command in your /usr/bin file. This isn’t required, but it does make it possible to request the command without specifying a full path.

Next I created 2 Alfred Extensions which you can download below.

The first one switches to my Airplay Device. I have set the Keyword to Air and notice the command output ‘Speakers’. Speakers is the name of my Airport Express. You’ll need to change that to whatever your AirPlay device name is.

The second Alfred Extension does exactly the same thing except sets it to Internal Speakers.

Here are the two extensions and a quick link to AudioDevice:

Crazy in the coconut

It’s amazing how our brains work. Tonight I was walking down 4th ave here in Vancouver and saw a window display for an artist named Tim Delaney. He apparently is a skateboard photographer and all of a sudden I mistook him for another artist I loved a long time ago and forgot about. I got very excited to see this guy’s work again. I got home and looked him up and realized it was not the same guy.

The person I was remembering did these amazing photo realistic paintings on skateboards and wood. Tim Delaney is a photographer.

However, Dave Delaney is the one I was looking for. What amazes me is I forgot about this person years ago and something clicked when I saw the name tonight and brought the memory of this incredible artwork and the vague recollection of his name.

You can check out the real Dave Delaney and his work @ http://davedelaney.com.
